NATIONAL INSURANCE NUMBER - NI numbers consist of two letters, followed by six numbers, followed by one letter, A, B, C or D. NI number you can find on your pay slips, P45. "BR"/EMERGENCY TAX CODE - HM Revenue & Customs mainly gives BR Tax Code for new Employees. This code indicates that no tax-free allowance has given to you and basic rate tax is charged. PERSONAL ALLOWANCE - Everyone who lives in the UK is entitled to receive some of their income tax-free. The allowances you receive represent how much income you can receive each tax year tax-free. If you are under the age of 65, your personal allowance for the 2007-08 tax years is £5,225. If your earnings for 2007/08 tax period were less than £5,225, you will get all your tax you have paid.
